Flaxseed

Flaxseed, also known as linseed comes from the food and fibre crop and is a natural source of fibre and Omega 3 which is not made by the body and needs to be sourced through food. It also provides a good source of Calcium essential for strong bones and teeth as well as Iron used in the formation of red blood cells used to transport oxygen round the body. There are two main varieties brown and golden (the golden variety has slightly more subtle flavour) and it can also be made into an oil. The seeds can be sprinkled on to food, made into crackers or mixed into smoothies.
